The village of Charroux is officially categorized as One of the Most Beautiful Villages in France (Plus Beaux Villages de France - www.villagesdefrance.free.fr). It dates back to Roman times, but is mostly known for its many medieval houses and cobbled streets. | There is a small grocery store
and a bakery in the village. There are several good restaurants, including
one of the best restaurants in the region, La Ferme St Sebastien.
For more grocery shopping, the closest shops are in Bellenaves, as
is the weekly market on Wednesday mornings.
Being classified among the Plus Beaux Villages de France has attracted a number of traditional craftsmen to Charroux. Among these are a walnut and mustard mill and a soap maker. |
